Carine Shermann, doctoral candidate in French and Francophone Studies, won the North Central Council of Latin Americanist Graduate Award for her excellent paper on Magiollo's novel, "El hombre del acordeón." The review committee commented, "This well-written paper was a joy to read, drawing readers into a compelling analysis of Maggiolo’s 2003 novel, crafting an argument that literary perspectives on historical events present “oral archives” that add complexity to our understanding of the past."
