The Matter of the World: Reflections on the Environment
With the generous sponsorship of the newly endowed Azzurra B. Givens fund for Excellence in Italian studies, FSU’s Italian Program hosted a two-day symposium on environmental humanities called “The Matter of the World: Reflections on the Environment.” Organized by Professor Irene Zanini-Cordi (MLL, Italian) and Professor Juan Carlos Galeano (MLL, Spanish), the event featured a presentation and discussion of the film “El Río” by Professor Galeano, an interdisciplinary panel of environmental humanists from across MLL’s programs (including Italian MA candidate Alexandra Basili), and a keynote address by Serenella Iovino, Professor of Italian Studies at UNC Chapel Hill and acclaimed scholar of ecocriticism. The events were held on September 30 and October 1, 2019.
