Listed below is some information about three important foreign language requirements we have here at FSU.

Transfer Admission Requirement: All transfer applicants must have satisfied the state of Florida's foreign language admission requirement by having earned two units in one foreign language (e.g. proficiency through Spanish II) or American Sign Language in high school, or having completed through the second elementary/beginning course of one foreign language (e.g., proficiency through SPN 1121 - Beginning Spanish II) or American Sign Language in college (or documented equivalent proficiency).

College of Arts and Sciences Requirement: All students with majors housed within the College of Arts & Sciences must complete a classical or modern foreign language through the intermediate level. This can be demonstrated with foreign language coursework through the 2000 level (2220 or the equivalent course) or with an equivalent CLEP or language placement test score.

University B.A. Requirement: All university students who receive a B.A. degree from FSU must complete a classical or modern foreign language through the intermediate level. This can be demonstrated with foreign language coursework through the 2000 level (2220 or the equivalent course) or with an equivalent CLEP or language placement test score.

**It is important to understand that although FSU only requires the equivalent of 2 semesters of a foreign language for admission to the university, many majors on campus require the completion of the equivalent of 3 college semesters of a foreign language, before a student will be eligible to graduate.** Other colleges, schools, and programs throughout FSU may also have separate foreign language requirements. Students should check with their major advisor about major/college specific graduation requirements. 

Important note: A grade of "C–" or better must be earned in each course applied toward any major or minor degree earned in Modern Languages and Linguistics. A grade of "C–" or better is also  required for students to advance to subsequent language levels.
